A simplified drawing of Sipa-ho

This page presents a simplified drawing of Sipa-ho with astrological symbols

The Tibetan astrologers use the following mental picture as a reminder for the content of the Big Golden Tortoise:

Manjushri's sword pierces the Tortoise in a place that represents the eight elemental directions: East, Southeast, South, Southwest, West, Northwest, North and Northeast. The head of the Tortoise in the South represents blood for pain, symbolising the element of Fire. The tail in the North represents liquid for pain symbolising the element of Water. The right lung of the tortoise is in the East, represented by the sword handle, symbolising the element of Wood. The left lung in the West represents Manjushri's sword, symbolising the element of Iron. The four limbs represent the Earth element.

On the stomach of the tortoise are the central symbols of Elemental Astrology. The innermost has the nine magic Mewa square numbers. The middle layer consists of eight Parkha trigrams. Surrounding the Mewa and Parkha in an outer layer are the 12 animal signs.
